Hi all,
I know I haven't been a regular here in many years now, but since I'm returning and plan on contributing to the list again, I just wanted to take this time to thank everyone again for the Bach 37 which I still play every day.
For those who weren't on TPIN at the time and wouldn't know, I used to post here a lot.
I mean A LOT.
I was nuts about trumpet 100 times more than most boys my age were nuts about sports and video games. Every other thought to go through my head was trumpet, and when I needed to give my chops a rest from practicing, this list was my outlet for all of my extra trumpet energy.
I got to try a Bach 37 belonging to a friend at school, and pretty much instantly became obsessed with the Bach name. I had no clue that a trumpet could play that well. From that point I would not stop talking and thinking about Bachs. Although they didn't let on, I'm sure all of my impromptu Bachology 101 lectures over the dinner table probably drove my folks nuts. "It's what Phil Smith plays! Listen to him! If I get one I can sound like that!" Hahahaha! If it were only so easy...
I to this day don't know the exact details of how everything went down, but I believe it was Donovan Bankhead and Michael Anderson who came up with the idea of taking up a collection behind my back and getting me a Bach 37 from Tulsa Band(where Donovan worked at the time). One day out of the blue this Bach just showed up at the door and I just FREAKED OUT!
This is an amazing group of very generous people, and you all got together and gave me the thrill of my life. I have never before or since, felt a rush that rivaled that feeling I felt when I opened that box and saw the brand new Bach case with the tag on it peaking out of the styrofoam peanuts.
I suppose that was over 10 years ago by now. I still love the horn, play it every day, and take loving care of it. I honestly don't think I'll ever feel worthy of the gift, but thank you again. I also need to thank you for the support and encouragement you have given me over the years. All three meant and continue to mean a lot to me.
Happy horn honkin'!
-Dave
