Thanks for all of your thougtful replies. No, she will not be a music major, rather chemistry (environmental - be still my beating heart) and economics. She does want to play in college, not just band and marching ( God forbid) but rather some wind symphony -- as I see my own mortality (age 62) I don't want  to short change her on the stuff that I have, and would rather  have her have too much stuff , eg: my bach,  1964 burbank benge and so forth. As one would guess, more money than talent. 
 
Does anyone have any idea what happens to the pretty good players who go to the IVY's .I went to Harvard in the '60s and was able to play in the band (pep, symphonic, etc) and was able to play some semi pro gugs in Boston. Relatively high level playing, And of course I got involved in the depravity of the Harvard Band. INC 
 
I guess that I just trust my kid to take care of the horn.
