Find a teacher or get a duet buddy. Something is wrong, and I don't think age has anything to do with your problem. Do you use a lot of pressure? Are you slumping and angling the horn differently when you are tired? Are you playing Clarke quietly? These are questions that I would ask if I were you teacher. You can play the trumpet for as long as you are alive and kicking :-)
Wilmer....... I've got you by a few years.

I'm a seven month comeback player of almost 66 using a C horn. I've improved
very slowly, but I've encountered problems in the last week or so. Since
then, my endurance has dropped, my attacks are poor and I've almost lost A
above the staff. I expect that I've stressed my chops somehow.
I strive to practice an hour or two daily in 20 - 30 minute chunks. I work
Arban's slurring studies (pp 39 - 41), Clarke Technical Studies (at
reduced speed), Hering Etudes and recently, Clarke Technical Study #1 with A
as my high note (#22).
Should I quit for a few days?
I would think that working to mild fatigue is necessary for improvement in
range and endurance. How do I know when I'm causing harm?
